Honey's Nubbins

Honey's nubbins (a small lump or residual part) has healed up nicely.  The hair is growing back, so it's not so odd looking now.  She is completely use to not having her full tail now.

Tail or no tail, Honey loves her Ducky.

Don't forget to hug your hound/s.

Update on Polly & Honey

Today Honey and Polly had a check up at the vet.

Polly is now signed off.  She'll have her annual jabs in June and then she will get booked in for the rest of her dental.

Honey had her stitches out and she is now signed off as well.

Now we can take it easy with no vet visits for a while.

Don't forget to hug your hound/s.

My Girls +1

Last week my friend Hilary had an appointment in the village, so she dropped Sofia her Pointer off here.  When Hilary got back here we sat chatting over a coffee and then this happened.

Sofia got in with Honey.  She had tried laying next to Polly, but Polly got up and walked away.  It wasn't personal, as Polly doesn't usually let Honey lay with her either.

Then Honey got out and Sofia had the bed to herself.

Later on my girls got to roaching.

Both girls had a vet check on Thursday.  Polly's mouth is healing well.  Vet has decided that we need to leave doing more dental on Polly for about four months.  She had to drill into her jaw bone and wants to make sure that is totally healed up.  Polly has another check next Thursday.

After telling the vet Honey would kick up a stink the minute she got near her tail, she just stood there and only made one slight yelp.  Tail is basically healed up, but they want to give it till Thursday and then hopefully take the stitches out.

Hope you are having a lovely day.

Don't forget to give your hound/s a hug.

Polly's Dental

Well Polly went in for a dental and her nails to be cut this morning.  Should have been routine but.......

Vet phoned around 12.45pm.  Turns out Polly needed 11 out.  Going to cost £300 more than their quote for just cleaning of £142.  Not worried about the cost, but they were struggling to keep Polly’s temperature up, so they haven’t been able to do all the teeth in this op.  I hate the thought of her going back and being put under again, as the anaesthetic really isn’t good for Greyhounds and now she has had this reaction with loss of body heat (which can kill) I am going to be even more worried.
Had a phone call around 2pm to say she was coming round from the anaesthetic, but still low body temperature.  I asked if when I collected her I should bring a coat and she asked if I could take coats down straight away.  I took her night time coat and a fleece lined coat, so that could use both or one at a time.  I went into the kennelling area and the vet nurse was sitting on the floor in Polly’s kennel.  Polly had layers on top of her and also they had filled latex gloves with warm water and layed them on her.  There was a heater plugged in.  They’d wrapped her feet in bubble wrap and covered with bandages to also try and get her temperature up.  Polly lifted her head when she heard me and the nurse said that was a good sign.
Picked Polly up at 5pm.  They took 4 easy ones out and one that took 45 minutes, then had to stop.  In about three weeks she will have to go back in for the remaining ones to be done.  There are some that definitely have to come out and some that they aren’t sure about.  I said for them to take any they think might cause a problem in the future, as I don’t want her in a year or twos time when she is 11 needing to go through this.
She has just eaten a little soft canned food with a Rimadyl, which will help with any pain.  If she hadn’t eaten tonight she would have had to have a pain killing injection in the morning.  The main pain will be from the big one they had so much trouble getting out.  She has stitches there that will dissolve.  She has to have soft food for a week, so I am expecting runny poos, as she doesn't do well on that type of food.  They gave me two tins of the special food, but I will go out tomorrow and buy some cheaper brand to cover the week.  I can also wet her dry complete food, but she’d not be up to that for a few days.
Vet mentioned that if she get’s an infection in the big hole, it might mean taking her to one of their places that has a dental x-ray.  They had tried to do an x-ray, but couldn’t get it to show the one tooth they were really bothered about.
Polly is at times dribbling a little blood, but not much.  Thinking I may have to sleep in here tonight.

Honey was very concerned when Polly came home.  I think it's the smell of the vets and blood.
So as you can imagine I’ve not done anything today except worry.  Good job I am already grey:)

Now go and hug your hound/s.

Honey Is Getting There

Saw a different vet this morning with Honey.  He took the dressings off and said it is healing so well it didn't need a dressing now.

He did give me some dressings in case she tried to nibble it.  Good job he did as she was constantly trying to nibble it and at times she would yelp.  The stitches are in such a position the ends were constantly pricking her behind.  I used a small dressing just to cover the stitches and she immediately left it alone.

Next check up Thursday.

Just the end covered.  Hair is starting to grow.

Honey all snug under her blanket.

Hope you are having a nice evening.

Honey Is Home

I dropped Honey off at the verts at 9am.  She had her op late morning.

Collected her at 4pm.  She's still getting over the anaesthetic.  Got to go back Thursday afternoon for a clean dressing.  She may be put on antibiotics, but they will see what it looks like.

She's left with about 6", so at least her modesty is in tact;)

She doesn't want any dinner, not even cheese, so she is definitely not herself.  As the dog beds in here are bigger than in my bedroom, I will sleep in my reclining chair in here at least tonight.  At least then she can stretch out.

Here's my girl.

Here's her little nubbin.

Don't forget to hug your hound/s.

UPDATE on Honey & Polly - Some Good News and Some Bad News

Good News:

Polly's blood test all came back fine.  Whatever the test was for the Liver, showed a slight rise, but it was still inside the normal range, so the vet said all ok.

Vet said to increase her food by giving her a bit more and dividing it between two meals.  We'll keep an eye on her weight to make sure she doesn't keep loosing and also that she doesn't gain too much.

Polly is booked in for a dental and nail cut on Monday 11th April.  Vet didn't think she would need any out, but due to her age (9) she advised she has the dental now.

Her nails grow very fast, they are very thick and black so you can't see the quicks, so best to do them whilst she's out for the dental.

Bad News:

Honey's tail has an infection beginning and she opened it up again this morning.  Vet has said for her to have 50mg Rimadyl a day to hopefully get the swelling down and help with the pain.  She has a fresh dressing on, but it is showing a little blood, so she has opened it yet again.

As she keeps opening up the wound by whacking her tail when she wags it, it isn't healing.  Vet advised she has the tail amputated.  She's booked in for Tuesday 5th April.

Please send my girls positive healing thoughts for their procedures.

Now go and hug your hound/s.

Update On My Girls

Took girls back to the vets yesterday morning.

Vet took off the longer dressing on Honey's tail and said the lower part of her tail looked swollen.  She thought as the dressings had moved down the tail it had started to cut off the circulation.  She redressed it, but with a dressing like the first time, but she did add an extra layer.

So far the dressing is staying in place and no blood.  Got to go back tomorrow morning, when they will see if she needs another dressing or not.

Polly's wee sample was clear, so decided to have the blood test done.  Would have cost £112 odd, but for another £10 it would be a very comprehensive test that covers all but the rare things, so I agreed to that.  They may have the results tomorrow, but if not they'll ring me next week.

Poor Polly stood so tense whilst they got the blood, her back legs went into spasms.  As soon as she could move she was fine.

Honey with her new dressing.

Polly tired out after the vets.

Don't forget to give your hound/s a hug.
